Sudan is Africa's third-largest gold producer and holds one of the continent's most significant untapped gold reserves β€” estimated at over 3,000 tonnes of underground deposits across the Nubian Desert, the Sahel Belt, and the Red Sea Hills. ALSERO GOLD's Mining Division operates at the intersection of tradition and technology: from artisanal cooperatives developed over centuries to precision-extraction rigs equipped with modern metallurgical labs.

Ancient Roots of Gold in Sudan

The story of Sudanese gold stretches back more than 4,000 years to the Nubian kingdoms of Kerma and Meroe, whose rulers traded gold with the Pharaohs of Egypt and the merchant fleets of Arabia. The word 'Nubia' itself is believed to derive from 'nub' β€” the ancient Egyptian word for gold. Archaeological sites at Jebel Marra, Nuba Mountains, and Wadi Allagi reveal centuries of organised mining activity, smelting furnaces, and trade routes stretching from the Red Sea coast to the Gulf of Aden.

This heritage informs the community-based approach ALSERO Mining brings to every operational site: respect for local knowledge, integration of artisanal miners into formal supply chains, and investment in the towns and villages near extraction zones.

Modern Operations and Infrastructure

Today Sudan produces approximately 60–80 tonnes of gold per year. ALSERO GOLD holds active exploration licences across three concession zones in North Kordofan, Red Sea State, and the Northern Province. Our operations use a layered extraction model: gravity concentration, carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuits, and flotation cells. The processing plant includes an on-site assay laboratory capable of analysing 200 samples per day. Finished dorΓ© bars are transported via secure logistics to the Port Sudan Refinery and onward for international settlement.

Export and Global Markets

Port Sudan serves as the critical gateway for all ALSERO gold export flows. Our partnership with the Bank of Sudan's Precious Metals Unit ensures full compliance with LBMA chain-of-custody standards. From Port Sudan, refined gold moves to Dubai's DMCC β€” the world's largest physical gold hub β€” and from there to end buyers in Asia, Europe, and the Gulf. In 2024 ALSERO completed its first direct settlement in LBMA-accredited form bars, a milestone opening access to the premium tier of global bullion banking.

Community and Environmental Commitment

Responsible mining is core to how we operate. ALSERO Mining's community development fund allocates 3% of net revenue to local infrastructure: schools, clinics, water wells, and road construction. Our artisanal miner integration programme currently employs more than 1,200 independent miners as registered sub-contractors, providing training, safe equipment, fair pricing, and access to formal banking for the first time. Environmental management plans govern every site, including land rehabilitation, mercury-free processing, and biodiversity monitoring along the Nile tributaries.
